Welcome to SEK International School Catalunya!

It is a pleasure for me to welcome you to this international community of educators who are fully dedicated to the personal and academic growth of our students.

SEK-Catalunya is an international school that welcomes students and teachers from over 40 nationalities who live together in a wonderful environment in the Montseny Natural Park, just a few kilometres from the city of Barcelona. We boast outstanding educational and sports facilities, including modern boarding halls for about 50 boarders that offers all the necessary comforts for both international and Spanish students from other Spanish autonomous regions who decide to come to our school in search of a high-quality international education.

By offering the continuum of the International Baccalaureate Programmes (Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme, Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme), we prepare our students to successfully face the challenges posed by a constantly changing world. We offer a rigorous academic syllabus based on the development of skills, in which we invite our students of all ages to make connections between what they learn and the world around them.

International-mindedness, solidarity, multiculturalism, as well as inquiry-based learning, foster the desire to learn and help our students to manage their own learning process, preparing them to enjoy a meaningful life where they will be agents of change to create a better world. “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all” – as Aristotle said. SEK-Catalunya is pleased to offer a learning environment where English is the vehicular language, also including Spanish and Catalan, and the possibility of learning a fourth language (French, German or Chinese) both in our curriculum and in the day-to-day life of our community.

Furthermore, we believe it is necessary for our students to develop all possible skills in their learning process. To achieve this, we have an extraordinary Music School that follows the Trinity College London syllabus and is a member of the prestigious International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA), which allows them to enhance their musical and creative talents, promoting autonomy and self-expression and fostering meaningful learning.

Autonomy in the learning process is also developed through project work (Empowerment Hubs) and interdisciplinary and collaborative work carried out in our open learning spaces that follow the principles of the Intelligent Classroom and the Future Learning Model, an innovative and ambitious programme implemented in all SEK Education group schools.

We are also very proud to be pioneers in Spain in offering international projects such as NASA and Formula 1, which join the already prestigious Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award to promote meaningful learning that allows our students to build their reality and experiences.
