Educational stages from 3 to 18 years of age

 

SEK-Catalunya is a member of the IB® World Schools International Community. The International Baccalaureate® programmes are offered from 3 up to 18 years of age, integrated with the national curriculum.

The International Baccalaureate® programmes correspond to the following educational stages:

Nursery, Preschool and Primary Education – Primary Years Programme (PYP)

Secondary Education – Middle Years Programme (MYP)

Baccalaureate – Diploma Programme (DP)

Baccalaureate – School IB Career-related Programme (CP)

INFANTS SCHOOL-Pre-School (4 months to 3 years)

  • Multilingual education with immersion in English, Spanish and Catalan
  • Early stimulation and development of multiple intelligences
  • Promotion of talent, creativity and emotional intelligence
  • Individualised attention adapted to each child’s age and learning pace
  • Integration of new technologies in the learning environment

The teaching team at SEK-Catalunya Infants School provides the youngest children with an environment where they can explore, discover and create. Play is the guiding thread that supports children’s development in their physical, neurological, linguistic and emotional growth.

Early Years Education – Second Cycle: Ages 3 to 6

 Encouraging inquiry, discovery, autonomy and the development of good learning habits.

 Play as the central element of learning and the main form of expression for students.

Multilingual education with immersion in English, Spanish and Catalan.

Primary Education: Ages 6 to 12

 Encouraging a love of learning.

 Interdisciplinary projects that allow students to apply what they have learned across different subjects.

Both stages focus on inquiry and the discovery of the world through cross-curricular themes.

Through the IB® Primary Years Programme (PYP), students are prepared to become independent lifelong learners and are encouraged to develop the profile of active, caring, respectful and engaged individuals.

A multilingual programme is implemented with immersion in English, Spanish and Catalan, with the introduction of a fourth language (French or German) from Year 5 of Primary Education. This language distribution is also maintained in the MYP.

Secondary Education – Middle Years Programme (MYP)

From 12 to 16 years of age.

The IB® Middle Years Programme is delivered:

  • Aimed at students from 12 to 16 years of age.
  • Encouraging student development in their roles as creative, critical and reflective thinkers, whilst encouraging them to be sympathetic, open-minded, and able to act upon and solve problems.
  • Focussing on a deeper study of academic disciplines and recognition of the inter-relationships between these in order to address and understand the significant and relevant themes at an individual, national and global level.

Baccalaureate – Diploma Programme (DP)

From 16 to 18 years of age

 Intellectual and personal growth, looking towards life as an adult

 Facilitating integration into the world of work and/or entry into higher education.

Students may opt to take the IB® Diploma Programme either in Spanish and English or fully in English:

  • Promotes critical thinking, sympathy and inter-cultural understanding.
  • This programme is evaluated using international education professionals.
  • All our Baccalaureate students present the obligatory Diploma Programme dissertation, a rigorous and independent piece of research.

Baccalaureate – School IB Career-related Programme (CP)Ages 16–19

  • Combines the academic rigour of the IB with a clear professional orientation.
  • Provides a solid foundation for access to university and the world of work.
  • Allows students to specialise in a vocational area while developing both academic and professional competences.
  • Encourages intellectual, personal and professional growth.

The curriculum includes:

  • A minimum of two Diploma Programme (DP) subjects.
  • A career-related study programme, depending on the pathway chosen by the student.
  • Four core components common to all students:
    • Reflective Project: research and analysis of an ethical dilemma related to the chosen professional area.
    • Personal and Professional Skills: development of self-management, ethics, leadership and planning for future academic and career pathways.
    • Language and Cultural Studies: development of communication skills and intercultural understanding in academic and professional contexts.
    • Community Engagement: learning experiences based on action and reflection with a positive social impact.
