Paola Prat and Eric Macià, year 2 Diploma Programme students at SEK-Catalunya, have won the audiovisual category of this year’s Premio Dialoga award, organised by the ESADE Law School and the Catalonia School of Notaries.
Paola and Eric won the award after competing in the final against four other projects, finalists from among two hundred entries from schools around Catalonia. The award includes a scholarship to study at the ESADE Law Summer School.
The Premio Dialoga award, in its fourth year this year, aims to promote dialogue among young people. The topic for this year was ‘What is dialogue and how does it help us to manage conflict?’ Paola and Eric, with their video entitled Somos seres sociales (We are social beings), stirred the emotions of a panel of judges made up of ESADE community members, notaries, representatives of the Department for Education of the Catalan Regional Government and the Centre for Private Legal Mediation of Catalonia.
Both Paola and Eric agreed that their work was focussed on ‘connecting ideas well so it made sense, choosing out words carefully and making sure they fitted well with the images’. They admitted their participation in SEKMUN inspired them because it allowed them to see first hand ‘how dialogue is a real and effective tool for mediation and conflict resolution.’
Paola and Eric spent six months on the project and are very proud to have been given the award and have participated in this experience and this personal exercise that has raised their awareness on the importance of dialogue. ‘Conflict is a very important topic nowadays and it shouldn’t be seen as something only affecting relations between countries or politics. We face conflict in our day-to-day lives and we shouldn’t forget that the solution can always be found in dialogue’, said Paola.
SEK-Catalunya students have always been among the finalists in the Premio Dialoga award from the very first year. This year, as well as the overall winner, Pilar Gibaut, Angioliana González and Carla Ortega also submitted an entry, a video about dialogue between children. The theme for next year, bullying, was announced at this year’s awards ceremony and SEK-Catalunya is expected to submit entries.
